Short Description: Displays all security attributes of disk files and supports ACL evaluation

Description:

The problem (or is it a challenge?)

1. To extract ALL the information of a disk file from the system, holding the information to
decide the access rights, you have to consult GUARDIAN (FILEINFO, FUP INFO) as well as

SAFEGUARD (INFO ):
GUARDIAN:
- FUP INFO [,DETAIL]

SAFEGUARD:
- INFO SAFEGUARD
- INFO VOLUME
- INFO SUBVOL
- INFO DISKFILEThis is impractical in real life.

2. To evaluate a set of Access Control Lists (ACLs) plus taking the different global
SAFEGUARD settings into account IS a challenge:
Is it FIRST RULE, that makes it an error 48, or because there is no ACL? And what the hell
does a FROZEN ACL mean?

3. A pre evaluation of a set of new ACLs is not supported by SAFEGUARD. This often
results in the problem of locking down a file for a (group of) user(s) when installing an ACL.

The 'what if' feature is missing.

The Solution

Here comes CRYSTAL - a tool that fills the above mentioned missing features.
CRYSTAL runs in BLOCK mode on all 6520/6530 type terminals, as well as it's emulations (PCT and TTE).

CRYSTAL supports the following functions:

  1. Evaluate a set of (ACLs) and display the access results
  2. Read and display all file related existing ACLs (SFG, Vol, SubVol, File) and GUARDIANattributes, using wild card addressing
  3. Save of actual shown screen image to disk for future evaluations
  4. Reload of saved screen from disk
